2022 | SYDNEY, NSW 2000

St James Station public toilets had been closed since 2019 due to a collapsed 80m sewer line located 15m underground. Stones Plumbing Service, in collaboration with Sydney Trains and Brefni, led the investigation, repair, and relining of the sewer line. Access was facilitated by installing a new maintenance shaft in Hyde Park, allowing for the complete rebuild of the main boundary trap, reflux valve, and connection to the Sydney Water main. The repairs, carried out during a possession weekend, adhered to strict confined space safety measures, including gas monitoring, rescue teams, and CCTV inspections.

Key Achievements:

  • Successful Repairs: The entire 80m sewer line was relined and restored without issues.

  • Reopened Facilities: Public toilets have remained problem-free since the project’s completion.

  • Award-Winning Project: Winner of the NSW 2024 Earth Award for excellence in civil construction and the National Earth Award for 2024.
